Why you should get boat insurance

Even though boat insurance isn't legally required in Canada for pleasure craft, it's a good idea to protect yourself against the unexpected. Insuring your boat can help you cover costs in the event of an accident. For example, our insurance coverage can help protect you if your boat hits a personal watercraft while you're docking.

FAQ

Is boat insurance required?

No, specific coverage isn't required by law for motorboats or other types of personal pleasure craft.

But we recommend you get insurance to help protect yourself against the unexpected. There are many situations where proof of insurance is required. For example, lenders often require it when you finance the purchase of a boat.

What determines the cost of boat insurance?

Various factors determine how much boat insurance costs, including the type of watercraft, its size and horsepower. Call us to discuss your unique needs.

How do I make a boat insurance claim?

If your boat was damaged, stolen or involved in an accident, our claims department is available 24/7.

What if I don't use my boat in the winter?

You don't need to notify us if you put your watercraft into storage for the winter. When calculating your premium, we take into account that you only use your boat seasonally.

Your boat will stay covered against fire, theft and vandalism even if it's in storage during the off-season.
