Understanding joint and several liability
Will I get a notice about the pause in scheduled changes to joint and several liability?
Yes. If you have a jointly and severally liable additional cardholder and you received a legal notice dated April 7 or later, you’ll soon get a new notice. This notice will confirm that all changes initially scheduled for June 2026 have been paused, including those regarding liability. You don’t need to do anything.
I currently have a jointly and severally liable additional cardholder. Will our responsibility for the debts on the account remain as is?
Yes, you and your additional cardholder are still jointly and severally liable. Your situation won’t change. You and your additional cardholder will remain jointly and severally liable for all debts on the account beyond June 9, 2026.
Will we be able to keep our joint and several liability once the credit card system is revamped?
That’s our goal. We continue to work on the modernization of our system. We’ll let you know once we have any updates to this topic.
What does joint and several liability mean? Does it mean each cardholder is responsible for their own purchases?
No, it means both cardholders are jointly and severally liable for all the debts on the account, regardless of who made the purchases.
