Desjardins adheres to industry best practices to ensure the security of your personal information when you make your transactions.

Identification and authentication

Desjardins ensures its members assets are secure by systematically identifying and authenticating its members before they carry out transactions online or at the ATM.

To prevent fraud or following a case of identity theft, we will ask you to show your Desjardins Access Card when making transactions at a caisse or Desjardins Business centre. Two recognized identification documents may also be required. You will have to show original valid ID; no photocopies are accepted. See the list of identification documents (PDF, 17 KB).

Phishing fraud

Our systems run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which enables us to act quickly if we detect fraudulent email.

Furthermore, we follow up on each seemingly fraudulent email that you send us.

Cloning and card fraud (skimming)

We are equipped with additional security systems that check your identity when you use your Desjardins Access Card at an ATM. In addition to your personal identification number (PIN), you may be asked to enter your birth date when you make some transactions.

Desjardins employees are not authorized to ask for your password or PIN.

Debit card

If your debit card is lost or stolen, we deactivate it as soon as you call us. Your caisse will issue you a new Desjardins Access Card.

Credit card

To report the loss or theft of your Desjardins credit card, you can contact us 24/7 and we'll see to it that a new credit card is issued right away.

  • abide by the online services and the Desjardins Access Card terms of use
  • do not disclose your access codes, passwords or PINs to anyone and protect your personal computer equipment
  • advise us immediately if you are a victim of fraud and cooperate with us in our investigation

At Desjardins, we take several measures to protect your personal information:

  1. We do not divulge any information about our members without their consent.
  2. Desjardins employees are not authorised to ask for your password or PIN.
  3. Never disclose any personal information over the phone, including debit card numbers, birthdates and social insurance numbers, except during the usual authentication procedure when you contact us.
  4. Desjardins does not solicit members for personal and confidential information by email or otherwise.
  5. If Desjardins suspects fraudelent use of your credit card, our fraud prevention team, which is equipped with an automated system, may call you to confirm the transactions on your account. No personal questions about your PIN, card number, etc. will be asked because Desjardins already has this information.

InstaBalance is available in our mobile app. Once you set it up, you won't have to log in again to use certain features and get information. This tool is also available on a compatible smartwatch connected to your mobile device. When setting up this tool, our mobile services users agree to protect their mobile devices and compatible smartwatches.

Protect against unauthorized access to your personal information

  • Password protect your device and be sure to avoid using obvious codes or birth dates
  • Activate the auto-lock feature after a short period of inactivity (max: 5 minutes)
  • Activate the remote wipe or GPS feature, if available
  • In the event that you sell or repair your device, save your data and restore the device to its factory settings, making sure that your personal data is erased

Protect your mobile device

  • Deactivate your wireless features, both Bluetooth and WiFi, if you don't use them
  • Update your system and software
  • Download applications only from recognized companies and organizations

The Guaranteed 100% Secure program ensures that you are refunded money lost if you are a victim of fraud done online (on the Web or on your mobile device) or with your Desjardins Access Card, as long as you:

Understand just how sensitive your information is

Your confidential information should be contained in a password protected document.

Choose a data encryption tool

Free software allows you to encrypt and password protect several files in one folder.

Make sure your documents are protected

Your password should contain at least 8 characters and include a combination of numbers and letters.

Give the password to your advisor over the phone

Avoid sharing your password by email to help prevent potential fraud.

Cover your bases
