Managing payments and limits
Are my business credit card limits changing?
Your current credit limits aren’t changing. You just have more control over how you manage them. For example, you can add new cards to your business account without needing a new credit check or increasing your approved credit limit.
Your business now has an overall credit limit for its main credit card account. Individual card limits still apply, giving you control over how much each cardholder can spend.
You can adjust individual card limits to meet your business needs without having to apply for additional credit. Note that some transactions may be declined once the overall account limit is reached, even if the card used still has available credit. Make sure your main account’s overall credit limit meets your business needs.
Each transaction is authorized if the amount is within the card limit and the available credit on the main account.

Why might a transaction be declined even if the card limit wasn’t reached?
Available credit is determined at 2 levels:
- The limit set for each card
- The available credit on the main account
A transaction may be declined if the overall available credit limit on the main account has been reached, even if the card used still has available credit.
2 ways to manage credit limits:
Option A – The sum of all card limits is equal to the overall credit limit for the main account.
| Account | Limit |
|---|---|
| Main account | $100,000 |
| Card A | $40,000 |
| Card B | $30,000 |
| Card C | $30,000 |
In this scenario, the sum of all individual card limits is equal to the main account’s overall credit limit. There is no risk of a transaction being declined while a card still has available credit.
Option B – The sum of all card limits exceeds the overall credit limit for the main account.
| Account | Limit |
|---|---|
| Main account | $100,000 |
| Card A | $60,000 |
| Card B | $60,000 |
| Card C | $60,000 |
In this scenario, the total of all card limits is $180,000, while the main account’s overall credit limit is $100,000. This more flexible approach lets multiple cardholders have higher card limits. However, once the main account reaches its $100,000 credit limit, some transactions may be declined, even if the card used still has available credit.
Advice
You’ll need to keep an eye on the main account’s credit limit if the combined card limits exceed the main account’s overall credit limit.
How do I pay my account with centralized billing?
You only need to make one payment to your main account to cover all linked cards.
Transaction details for each card are still included on your statements to help with account reconciliation.
Is it normal that I can’t see my credit card balance anymore?
Yes. Your balance is no longer displayed in each individual card account. Your total balance is now displayed in your main credit card account. You can still view transactions for each credit card as you did before.
If I make a payment on my card, will it be applied to the amount due on my main credit card account?
Yes. All payments are automatically applied to the main account, where the outstanding balance is tracked.
We recommend making payments directly to the main account, as they appear as soon as they’re received.
If you make a payment on a card, the payment is processed right away and frees up available credit both on the card itself and on the main account in real time. However, it may take up to 48 hours for the main account balance to be updated to reflect your payment.
Make sure the card limits still meet your needs. For more information, call us at 1-888 233-2473 Phone number for Desjardins Business. This link opens your phone app..
What’s changing with the grace period?
The grace period is still 21 days.
The only thing changing is when it starts. The grace period is now calculated from the date a statement is issued instead of the date it’s mailed.
