Involvement in the community

The caisse enriches the lives of individuals and communities through its financial and human contributions. It supports projects that meet the needs and expectations of its members. Desjardins is an important socioeconomic leader in the community and works alongside several partners.

Through donations, sponsorships and contributions from the Community Development Fund, the caisse supports multiple local and regional initiatives in various sectors.

The Community Development Fund (CDF), also called community dividends, is made possible by the caisse's yearly surplus earnings. During the annual general meeting, members vote on the amount allocated to the CDF. This is a way for all caisse members to support the development of their community and important projects.

Caisse Desjardins des Etchemins is partnering with the Rotobec Sainte-Justine company to organize a major benefit show featuring local artists.

All profits generated by the event, which will take place at the École des Appalaches auditorium, will be donated to a child with health problems.

The first Le Show Business des Etchemins, in 2013, raised $7,200 for little Gabrielle Audet, who has Prader-Willi syndrome. The event was again a success in 2015, allowing young Ryan Bussières, who has autism, fragile x syndrome and dyspraxia, to receive the $11,000 raised. As for the fall 2016 show on behalf of little Daphnée Vachon who has a severe form of autism and a moderate intellectual disability, a record sum of $14,858 was raised.

Le Show Business des Etchemins is special because all the artists perform for free. As a result, all profits are donated to the selected beneficiary.

Sapin-cadeaux: Christmas presents for needy children

Sapin-cadeaux: Christmas presents for needy children

Since 2012, Caisse Desjardins des Etchemins employees, local Filles d'Isabelle and Knights of Columbus together with Fondation Sac-O-Dos and L'Essentiel des Etchemins, make it possible for each child in the area served by Caisse Desjardins des Etchemins to get a Christmas present they wish for.

Children ages 15 and under from underprivileged families are invited to write 3 things they'd like to receive on a Christmas ornament, which is then hung on one of the Christmas trees set up in the Caisse Desjardins des Etchemins service centres.

The general public can then select an ornament and purchase one of the items to give as a gift for the child. "The idea behind the project is to join forces for the children's well-being," said Joan Gagnon and Guylaine Tanguay, Caisse Desjardins des Etchemins employees and organizers of the Sapin-cadeaux project. "We're pleased that organizations join together for the cause and work together from a regional perspective."

To take part in the project, parents of needy children should contact Geneviève Turcotte at L'Essentiel des Etchemins at 418-625-4112.
