All our members and clients are covered by Desjardins Identity Protection.

Learn more about Desjardins Identity Protection

At Desjardins, we like to be proactive. When we replace your card, it doesn't necessarily mean you've been a victim of fraud and that you'll need to change how you shop.

We protect our members and clients by replacing their credit cards when they've been used at a location (in a store or on a website) where fraud like cloning or security breaches have occurred. We do everything we can to ensure your security while making sure that you have the best possible customer experience.

How cloning and computer security breaches can affect you

Fraudsters are always thinking about new ways to target potential victims and will do everything they can to get what they want. Cloning and computer security breaches are commonly used scams to compromise credit cards.

  • A card can be cloned when making a payment via a terminal with fraudulent software installed
  • Computer security breaches occur when a fraudster takes advantage of a weakness in a computer system by infiltrating it to steal information

Risks

The following financial information can be compromised through fraud: credit card number, expiration date and PIN (in some cases). This information is sufficient for fraudsters to make online transactions.

These scams do not automatically lead to identity theft.

To learn more, see Identity Theft Assistance.

Who is liable?

If your credit card has been compromised, we will automatically replace it, and, under the Zero Liability policy, you are not liable, nor do you have to pay for unauthorized transactions charged to your account.

To learn more, see Refunds in the event of fraud.

Can you find out where the scam took place?

Please note that we cannot divulge the source or the name of the merchant where fraud occurred.

In most cases, the merchant has also been scammed and will implement the necessary security measures to remedy the situation.

Furthermore, these scams often require police intervention, which obliges us to maintain the anonymity of merchants involved.

How to protect yourself from these scams

If your identity has been compromised, we will contact you as soon as possible and take action as required.

If you have any additional questions, call us at the number on the back of your credit card.
