Discount applies to Emergency Return Trip coverage sold as an add-on to healthcare coverage. For a person to be insured:

  • they must be a Canadian resident;
  • they must be at least 15 days old;
  • their trip must begin and end in Canada, in their province of residence;
  • they must apply for the insurance before the departure date and for the entire scheduled duration of their trip;
  • they must be covered under the government health and hospitalization insurance plans of their province of residence for the entire duration of their trip.

Emergency Healthcare
  • Reimburses up to $5,000,000 per insured for emergency care received, if you suddenly and unexpectedly become ill or have an accident on your trip
  • Covers transportation or repatriation expenses incurred for medical reasons or in the event of death
  • Is available as an add-on when you purchase Emergency Health Care coverage
Emergency Return Trip (optional)
  • Covers, in certain circumstances, the plane transportation expenses from your vacation destination to your home province, and back again
  • Advantage for members : 50% off, that applies to trips of 30 days or more, for members age 18 to 30 inclusively.
Accident
  • Provides a benefit for death or loss of use of a limb caused by an accident that occurs during your flight or while travelling
Baggage
  • Covers stolen, delayed or damaged baggage
  • Covers the cost of replacing a passport, visa, driver's licence or birth certificate
Trip Cancellation/Interruption
  • Reimburses expenses incurred if a trip needs to be cancelled for reasons recognized by the insurer

We calculate the premium based on:

  • the age of each insured on the departure date;
  • the duration of your trip;
  • the coverages selected;
  • the insurance amounts selected;
  • the state of health of each insured in certain age groups;
  • the deductible selected, where applicable.

Family premium

When several family members are covered under the same contract, premiums are only charged for the two oldest travellers. That means that children travelling with their parents or grand-parents receive free Emergency Health Care, Baggage and Accident coverage.

The applicable taxes and administrative fees are added the premium of to each contract, regardless of the number of travellers it covers.

Exclusion for unstable injuries or medical conditions

Emergency Health Care coverage and Trip Cancellation coverage do not cover unstable injuries and medical conditions, nor any related injury or medical condition for which, in the reference period (see below):

  • New symptoms appeared or the existing symptoms were more frequent or more intense
  • You consulted a physician (except for a routine check-up)
  • A physician recommended that you undergo a test, you underwent a test or you are waiting for the results
  • You had surgery, were hospitalized or a physician recommended that you have surgery
  • You started a new treatment, including a new drug, or a new treatment was prescribed
  • You had a change in treatment or medication (quantity, frequency or the medication itself) or such a change was prescribed

For Emergency Health Care coverage

The reference period is:

  • 3 months before your departure date, if you are 54 or under on that date; or
  • 6 months before your departure date, if you are 55 or older on that date.

For Trip Cancellation coverage

The reference period is 3 months before the Trip Cancellation coverage purchase date.

Other exclusions and limitations

Travel outside of North America

Some Desjardins Access cardholders have recently experienced difficulties when trying to withdraw money at ATMs of certain banks affiliated with the PLUS® network outside of North America (outside of Canada, the United States or Mexico).

To avoid this inconvenience, we can replace your Desjardins Access Card, as a preventive measure. With your new card, you'll be able to travel worry-free.
