In Canada, the residential sector consumes almost 16% of the energy and is responsible for 14% of greenhouse gas emissions1. The energy is mainly used for heating homes (63%), heating water (17%), appliances (14%), lighting (4%) and air conditioning (2%). In Quebec, the residential sector uses almost 20% of the energy and claims responsibility for nearly 20% of greenhouse gas emissions2.
Financing for green homes
We designed a mortgage to help improve the quality of the energy-efficiency of residential homes and to encourage green living: the Green Homes Program. When you build or renovate green, you make a healthier, more efficient and comfortable home that's better for both you and the planet.
