The Visa Desjardins prepaid card can be used:

  • for purchases at any point of sale where Visa is accepted, including online, telephone and mail order purchases
  • to withdraw cash from ATMs bearing the Interac logo in Canada and the Visa/PLUS logo around the world
  • to make recurring payments (e.g., memberships, phone bills)

The following limits apply to your Visa Desjardins prepaid card:

Max. purchase amount/day
Max. withdrawal amount/day
Max. number of withdrawals/day
5 (accepted transactions)/card

Note: Limits may change without notice.

Simply present your card to the merchant and request the Visa payment method.

The PIN is chosen when the card is activated. When you receive your card, simply follow the procedure indicated on the card holder to select a PIN through Desjardins Card Services' automated telephone service. When activating the PIN, make sure to have on hand the control number on the card holder.

The PIN can be modified at any ATM or through our automated telephone service at 514-397-4415 or 1-800-363-3380 (toll-free).

Make sure to use a PLUS* network ATM. This network is the equivalent of Canada's InteracMD network and recognizes 5-digit PINs, like the one used for your card. If you're asked to enter a 4-digit PIN during a transaction, enter your 5-digit PIN anyway.

All foreign currency transactions made with your Desjardins prepaid card are payable in Canadian dollars. There is also a 2.5% fee on amounts charged to the account in a foreign currency and converted to Canadian dollars.

All transactions made with your Desjardins prepaid card are authorized before being billed.

Authorized transactions remain on the account until the merchant sends is the transaction confirmation, which can take 5 to 7 business days. Beyond this period, if the transaction is not billed, it is automatically removed. The funds requested are held against your available balance. Please keep this in mind when making transactions that require a deposit (hotel reservations, gas purchases, etc.)

Funds can be held against your account when you rent a vehicle, reserve a hotel room or pay for gas at the pump. We recommend that when paying for gas at the pump, you enter a predefined amount whenever possible to avoid funds being held on your card.

Some restaurants and other establishments where tipping is standard practice may request a payment authorization for an amount that is higher than your bill (e.g. to cover the tip - usually a fixed percentage such as 20%). We recommend you ask the establishment to authorize a set amount instead of a percentage, to avoid the transaction being refused or a hold placed on funds. We cannot, however, guarantee that the establishment will agree to do so.

Negative balances must be reimbursed in full immediately. If the balance remains negative, future transactions will be declined. Any amount transferred to your account will go towards reimbursing the balance, until it is paid in full.

When your account has a negative balance and you add funds to it, your deposit is held for 5 to 7 business days.
