Our relationship with suppliers

Desjardins builds business relationships with suppliers based on respect and collaboration, and with industry best practices in mind. We make it a priority to apply strict and ethical guidelines to the contract awarding procedure. Our suppliers must understand and share Desjardins's values and sustainable development efforts.

In 2016, Desjardins Group purchased $1.4 billion worth of products and services from some 2,500 suppliers located in Quebec and the rest of Canada.

Nearly half of procurement at Desjardins is done in the technological area.

Desjardins uses a strict supplier selection process while maintaining a certain degree of agility with regards to the value of acquisitions and level of risk.

We proceed by invitation with suppliers for very specific needs. Suppliers are then selected on a scale on the basis of factors such as price, quality, innovation, social responsibility and business reciprocity. Business reciprocity and social responsibility can award suppliers extra points in near-tie situations.

What we mainly look for in suppliers is operational excellence, financial performance and corporate citizenship.

We evaluate suppliers throughout our business relationship with them to promote transparency, engage in negotiations based on facts, redefine the client-supplier relationship and have a tool with which to measure important factors (service quality, time management, etc.). The process allows us to reach a satisfying, win-win relationship.

Supplier evaluation is based on 4 criteria:
