Proxfin: A commitment to gender equality and environmental protection

December 11, 2020

At the recent annual meeting held by Proxfin, a network of 30 inclusive finance institutions that work in partnership with DID, members had the opportunity to share their innovative practices and development results.

In recent years, several Proxfin member institutions have adopted formal policies on gender equality and environmental protection. A number of strategies and concrete measures in connection with these 2 areas have also been implemented.

Several institutions, particularly in West Africa, have designed specific credit products for women (e.g., savings and credit products with educational programs, credit for female merchants and farm credit for rural women). In the Philippines, the NATCCO network designates a representative on its board of directors to ensure that its decisions promote gender equality.

With regard to environmental protection, several Proxfin member institutions have adopted guidelines to exclude sectors whose practices harm the environment from their credit portfolios. Some partners have also implemented measures to reduce their carbon footprint, while others support various green initiatives in their communities, such as reforestation programs and community cleanup days.

Performance report

Every year, the DID partner performance report presents the performance, impact and deployment results of Proxfin’s member institutions.

This strategic tool, which aims to promote transparency, information sharing and continuous improvement, measures the progress of Proxfin’s member institutions in several key areas.

The most recent performance report shows that, together, these organizations serve 17.6 million members and clients through more than 5,000 points of service and 78,000 employees, nearly 60% of whom are women.
