The idea of Caisse de la culture, serving the needs of Union des artistes (UDA) members, was born at the annual UDA convention, under then-president Serge Turgeon. The idea took shape and on May 2, 1994, Caisse de la Culture was created, with actor and professor Yvon Thiboutot at the helm. Other organizations quickly became members, most notably Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec, Union des écrivaines et écrivains québécois, Société des auteurs de radio, télévision et cinéma, Regroupement québécois de la danse, and Regroupement des artistes en arts visuels. Today, the caisse has earned the trust of most professional associations and groups and counts almost 7000 members.
