How to submit a claim

The first step in the Loan Insurance - Credit Balance Insurance claims process is requesting a form, which you can do one of three ways: visit our secure website, call a Desjardins Insurance1 customer service representative at 1-877-338-8928, or make an appointment at your Desjardins caisse.

The form you need will be mailed to you, along with instructions, so you can complete it at your convenience, from the comfort of your home.

In the event of disability

You can submit a claim once you've been totally disabled for at least:

  • 30 consecutive days if your disability is the result of an accident or illness requiring hospitalization for at least 72 consecutive hours (benefits are payable as of the 31st day)
  • 90 consecutive days if your disability is the result of an illness (benefits are payable retroactively to the 31st day)

In the event of death

You may be asked to submit additional documents. Desjardins Insurance will send you instructions detailing exactly what you need to provide.

In the event of critical illness

You must submit your claim as of the 31st day following the first diagnosis of a critical illness2.

In the event of loss of employment

You can submit a claim once you've been unemployed for at least 31 consecutive days (benefits are payable as of the 31st day following the loss of employment).
