Montérégie agricultural producers take action for the environment

For the third year running, we have joined forces with the UPA to award agrEAUresponsables grants to Montérégie agribusinesses that carry out sustainable projects to improve water quality, favour biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Did you know?

  • Desjardins has invested $450,000 over 3 years through the GoodSpark Fund and our region's caisses (Haut-Richelieu, Rouville, Pommeraie, Porte-des-Cantons-de-l'Est and Granby).
  • 62 agribusinesses have received grants to plant trees, shrubs and plants along the waterways on their land.
  • 75 hectares have been transformed into sustainable operations to improve water quality in Montérégie.
  • How big is 75 hectares? It's about 750,000 m2, or roughly 105 football fields transformed into natural vegetation.
  • The project was initiated by a former caisse administrator, Sébastien Vasseur.

Desjardins business account managers from Richelieu-Yamaska and Montérégie- Ouest were present for the awards ceremonies on January 19 and January 22, 2024.

This project demonstrates that economic prosperity and environmental protection can coexist. It's not a sacrifice. It's an opportunity for growth that will benefit future generations!
