Involvement in the community

The caisse enriches the lives of individuals and communities through its financial and human contributions. It supports projects that meet the needs and expectations of its members. Desjardins is an important socioeconomic leader in the community and works alongside several partners.

Through donations, sponsorships and contributions from the Community Development Fund, the caisse supports multiple local and regional initiatives in various sectors.

The Community Development Fund (CDF), also called community dividends, is made possible by the caisse's yearly surplus earnings. During the annual general meeting, members vote on the amount allocated to the CDF. This is a way for all caisse members to support the development of their community and important projects.

Caisse d'économie de la Métallurgie et des Produits forestiers–Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean is proud to have played an important part in the success of the 56th edition of the Tournoi Provinciale de Hockey Pee-Wee de Jonquière held from January 13 to 19, 2020.

Organized by the city of Saguenay police officers, this tournament not only encourages players to pursue their sport, it's also an opportunity for organizers to talk to young people about current events and hockey-related values.

The caisse was happy to pledge its support with a $5,000 donation to help make the tournament happen.

The caisse donated $5,000 to the Unité de réadaptation fonctionnelle intensive (URFI).

The funds were raised by Saguenay city employee Denis Boulianne and caisse manager Luc Gagné during a 53 km run. The caisse had pledge to double to money raised, up to $5,000. This means that a total of $10,000 was given to the Unité de réadaptation fonctionnelle intensive (URFI).

The URFI is a place where people can stay while they get the physical rehabilitation and medical care they need. The physical and social environment it provides allows for maximum recovery of essential abilities so patients can progressively resume their daily activities.

The Community Development Fund serves to redistribute a portion of the cooperative's surplus earnings to the community. Following a proposal by the board of directors, during the annual general meeting, members decide what portion of the surplus earnings will be paid into the community fund. Through their caisse, members can support causes that are important to them.

Members who sit on the board of directors manage the community fund. Every year, they report on the fund at the annual general meeting.

The caisse helped organize and spread the word about the Concours d'histoire TCA - Fonds de solidarité FTQ.

The caisse supported the Rêvez l’Aluminium – Pédale vers ton avenir initiative which encourages secondary 3 students to excel and innovate in the development of a local primary resource, aluminium.
