Focus on energy efficiency: A step toward changing the world!

There are many advantages to monitoring the energy efficiency of your home, especially when talking about windows and doors-which tend to let in drafts-or the installation of programmable thermostats. The latter can greatly increase your comfort and your finances, while also reducing the amount of energy wasted.

Did you know?

  • By lowering your thermostat by three degrees at night or when you leave the house, you could reduce your heating costs by up to 10%, in addition to reducing your green house gas emissions. Purchasing a programmable thermostat is an easy step and Hydro-Québec is currently offering a rebate of up to $130. For more information, visit the following link: Hydro-Québec Rebate.

  • By repairing damaged joints in your home and weatherstripping windowsills and doorsills (front door and garage), you can increase your level of comfort and stabilize room temperature.

To find drafts in your home, slowly move a candle or piece of paper along the joints of the walls, floors and ceilings. Near a draft, the flame will flicker or the paper will waver. Turning on all air exhaust devices (range hood, dryer, central vac, bathroom fan) will accentuate an air leak and make it easier to find.

Last year, to "Change the world, one step at a time", Desjardins Group adopted a Group Energy Efficiency Program and also joined forces with the Association québécoise de la maîtrise de l'énérgie (AQME) and four other large companies to gradually improve the energy efficiency of its buildings.
