Choose your own Transportation Cocktail

Did you know that:

  • Canadians spend on average $12,000 on their car each year?
  • Each hour spent behind the wheel of car on a daily basis increases the risk of obesity by 6%?
  • A car releases about four tonnes of CO2 each year?

According to these statistics, driving alone in your car is not a good option for your wallet, health or the environment.

Why not consider creating a transportation cocktail to diminish your impact on all three. You can include walking, cycling, using public transit, carpooling or even car sharing in your means of transportation.

Most Canadians travel mainly for work. Why not talk to your employer about possibly working from home, or having a more flexible schedule that would lead to better options for group transportation or carpooling?

Whether you live in the city or the country, there are several carpooling services available. This is a great way to reduce car-related costs, have some company while you travel and limit CO2 emissions.

For example, if you travel 30 km a day to go to work, you could save more than $1,200 a year by carpooling.
