On August 17, 2018, 2 of our employees joined nearly 30 volunteers to hand out school supplies to children from disadvantaged families as part of Ahuntsic's Magasin-Partage de la rentrée scolaire.
Aimed at helping local low-income families, the back-to-school sharing store invites children to choose a backpack, a lunch box and all the school supplies they need based on their level of study, taste and needs. The items were offered free of charge to primary and secondary school students, as well as to adults returning to school. Each family could also grocery shop at the store and pay only 10% of the total cost.
Many families in our community are living in need and can't afford to buy all the food they need. Since 1988, Montreal's Regroupement des Magasins-Partage makes it possible for disadvantaged families to shop for groceries with respect and dignity during back-to-school and Christmas. Every year, sharing stores help nearly 21,000 people throughout 20 neighbourhood on the island of Montreal.
Thanks to this gesture of solidarity, our team is happy to positively affect the lives of several families in our community.
