4 years ago, a partnership was created between the Vieux-Longueuil area caisses (Saint-Pierre-Apôtre, Pierre-Boucher and Longueuil caisses) and the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi de Longueuil (Place aux jeunes) to establish the Desjardins Youth Work Experience Program. The program helped 5 young people between the age of 15 and 18 get their first 180-hour summer job and be able to add it to their resume.
In support of the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi mission, or to help young people develop employability, responsibility and facilitate their social and economic integration, the caisses showed their social and economic commitment and helped these young people in keeping with Desjardins's mission and values.
A summertime success for Chloé Légaré and Jonathan Bélanger who worked at Métro Plus Drouin on rue Saint-Charles, for Shany Plourde who worked at Pâtisserie Au Désir, for Sophie Simard who worked at Fruiterie Boucherie Longueuil on rue Sainte-Hélène and for Élizabeth Vignault who worked at Centre de la petite enfance La Licorne.
The Caisse wishes to congratulate the workers at Carrefour jeunesse-Emploi Longueuil on a job well done and thank the businesses that allowed these 5 young people to fulfill their ambitions and have a great first work experience.
In spring 2011, over 500 students took part in the 5th annual festival highlighting the importance of physical activity and healthy eating habits in the school setting. The Caisse Desjardins de Longueuil had an important role in making the event happen.
Financial education is a core value of the Caisse. For many years, Caisse employees have given lectures on sound financial management at École secondaire Jacques-Rousseau and since 2011, they have given lectures at École secondaire Saint-Jean-Baptiste. During the lectures, the topics covered are: savings, financial assistance for students, credit, financial security and budgets.
Caisse Desjardins du Vieux-Longueuil also contributes to Desjardins Foundation, which awards over a half million dollars in scholarships each year.
To help introduce children to sound savings habits at an early age, the Caisse Desjardins de Longueuil actively supports the educational school caisse services at the de Normandie and Curé-Lequin schools.
These projects are running smoothly thanks to 4 adult volunteers who help throughout the school year.
The caisse also partners with 12 young volunteers who manage the École secondaire Jacques-Rousseau student caisse. The student caisse is an educational project that helps high school students learn about managing a mini-caisse and benefits all the students at the school.
Thanks to its support of student life, the caisse has been in existence for nearly 20 years and has over 300 young members.
On April 28, 2016, Caisse Desjardins de Longueuil, in collaboration with Librairie Coopérative Édouard-Montpetit, enthusiastically inaugurated a new student caisse at École secondaire Jacques-Rousseau. It's a project we're very proud of because the new caisse truly reflects our youth.
