Desjardins Youth Work Experience program

The goal of the program, which is carried out in partnership with Carrefour emploi Mékinac, is to help young people ages 16 and 17 become more employable in the future by allowing them to get their first stimulating experience in the job market or a first rewarding work experience. The Apprenti stage subprogram, created in 2014, is for young people age 14 and 15. It allows young people to carry out an 80-hour unpaid internship for a non-profit organization and earn a $500 scholarship at the end of the summer.

The program also:

  • makes studies relevant by providing jobs, thereby enlightening young people on potential future career paths and encouraging them to pursue their studies
  • gives young people a sense of belonging to their region and prevents an eventual exodus
  • contributes to the development of participating businesses and organizations by helping them hire an extra employee for the summer
  • allows young people to enjoy a rewarding experience as members of the community

In 2017, Caisse de Mékinac-Des Chenaux will invest over $20,000 in the program by creating 14 standard positions and 5 intern positions.
