About the caisse

A financial cooperative with deep roots in the community, Caisse Desjardins de Sault-au-Récollet–Montréal-Nord has 52,000 members. Each caisse member is also a co-owner of the caisse. Find out more about caisse operations.

The Caisse Desjardins de Sault-au-Récollet—Montréal-Nord is actively involved in the community by supporting many social and community projects. The caisse supports projects by groups or organizations in the following areas: humanitarian assistance, community services, health, education, culture, the ministry, and sports and leisure.

As for donations and sponsorships, the Caisse prioritizes activities organized by and for people in the immediate community, and takes into consideration their social and economic impact.

The Caisse Desjardins de Montréal-Nord came as a result of the merger of the Caisse populaires Desjardins de Montréal-Nord and the Caisse populaire Saint-Camille de Montréal-Nord (founded in 1966), in 2010.

The Caisse populaire de Montréal-Nord, the first caisse in this municipality, was founded on February 27, 1937, under the leadership of Sylvio Paquin. Its name was changed to Caisse populaire Saint-Vital de Montréal-Nord on July 10, 1971.

In 1999, to provide for the needs of their members, the caisses populaires Saint-Vital de Montréal-Nord and Saint-Rémi de Montréal-Nord (founded in 1958 by Georges A. Harris) formed the Caisse populaire Desjardins de l'Ouest de Montréal-Nord. In 2001, the Caisse populaire de Saint-Vincent-Marie (founded in 1959 by Paul E. Grandmont) joined the Caisse populaire de l'Ouest de Montréal-Nord.

In 2004, the caisses continued to consolidate. The Caisse populaire Desjardins de l'Ouest de Montréal-Nord and the Caisse populaire Desjardins de la Rive de Montréal-Nord (founded in 1999) joined up to form the Caisse populaire Desjardins de Montréal-Nord. Prior to this, the Caisse populaire Desjardins de la Rive de Montréal-Nord had been created as a result of the merger of the Caisse populaire Sainte-Colette (founded in 1964 by Fernand Denault) and the Caisse populaire Sainte-Gertrude (founded in 1953 by Fernand Laurent).
