The Community Development Fund serves to redistribute a portion of the cooperative's surplus earnings to the community. Following a proposal by the board of directors, during the annual general meeting, members decide what portion of the surplus earnings will be paid into the community fund. Through their caisse, members can support causes that are important to them.
Members who sit on the board of directors manage the community fund. Every year, they report on the fund at the annual general meeting.

Various non-profit organizations offer services that contribute to the community's well-being and growth thanks, in part, to Desjardins collective member dividends.
On May 31, 2012, your caisse participated in the launch of the LGBT Desjardins Facebook page, an initiative of the LGBT Committee and logical next step to the diversity campaign launched in October by the same committee. The page was launched to ensure the presence of Desjardins in the LGBT communities and maintain a dialog with them.
The page provides privileged access to these communities along with information and advice. It also showcases committee partners and their activities.
Friends of the LGBT cause with a Facebook page are invited to "like" and share the LGBT Desjardins page to support diversity in the workplace.
We hope many of you will follow us!
Caisses participating in LGBT activities

October 2011 - Caisses serving the Montreal downtown and Centre-Ouest mico-markets, along with Caisse populaire Préfontaine-Hochelaga and Caisse De Lorimier-Villeray in eastern Montreal, participated over several months in initiatives aimed at the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, primarily by creating an internal LGBT Committee and sponsoring key events in these communities.
Despite these significant endeavours, the caisses wanted to do even more: recognize freedom of gender expression in the workplace. They joined the Pride At Work movement to concretely recognize the freedom on gender expression of their own employees, managers and officers.
To go further still, the 10 caisses decided to launch an external ad campaign to show their openness, commitment and support toward the LGBT community.
Here is the result of their collective work, a great example of inter-caisse cooperation and commitment to community. The posters are displayed in all participating caisses.
Through their involvement, caisses serving the micro-market as well as Caisse populaire Préfontaine-Hochelaga and Caisse Desjardins De Lorimier-Villeray are proud to be partners of Fondation Émergence and to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community projects in Montreal.
