Involvement in the community

The caisse understands the challenges and issues facing its members. With their support, it can provide its fellow citizens with valuable help regarding initiatives aimed at common betterment and the advancement of society.

Your caisse supports local and regional initiatives in various areas.

Employee involvement

Each year, over $5,000 is awarded to various organizations within which employees are personally involved by donating their time or volunteering. They support the following organizations: Relay For Life, Shaved Head Challenge, Vélo à notre santé, MS Walk, 24 h Tremblant, etc.

Over the last 6 years, more than $12,000 has been awarded to Centraide, as there are many priority social needs in our community. Low-income people and families face an increasing amount of hardships in this unstable economy.

The following organizations, located on the territory we serve, received donations: Maison de la famille du Nord, Maison des jeunes La Tornade and Prévoyance envers les aînés.

The Community Development Fund serves to redistribute a portion of the cooperative's surplus earnings to the community. Following a proposal by the board of directors, during the annual general meeting, members decide what portion of the surplus earnings will be paid into the community fund. Through their caisse, members can support causes that are important to them.

Members who sit on the board of directors manage the community fund. Every year, they report on the fund at the annual general meeting.

In 2009, members of Caisse Desjardins de Mont-Tremblant agreed to contribute $250,000 to the Community Development Fund.

Caisse agreement with the polyvalente Curé-Mercure

Our youth advisor will visit the secondary V students three times to inform them about:

  • budgets;
  • savings and credit;
  • types of enterprises.

The Caisse has chosen an innovative way to build trust by going to meet youth in their environment.

If necessary, other meetings will be planned to fully meet youth needs.

Cash boxes for merchants

Merchants can simply telephone or fax their cash order, then drop by the Caisse to pick it up at their convenience from their cash box.

The cash boxes are located near the entrance of the Caisse, beside the ATMs.

Believing and investing in youth pays off... awards

The Défi Coop group first requested financial aid to purchase a used bioreactor, which costs around $5,000. The Caisse chose instead to give them a larger donation of $13,000 to purchase a new bioreactor. Thanks to the bioreactor, which will be used to compost the school's putrescible waste, the Défi Coop group received a Palme verte award from the Montréal Nature Museums Foundation. The Défi Coop group is also a national finalist for the Québec Entrepreneurship Contest.

... in conclusive results

4 years ago, Caisse de Mont-Tremblant decided to give graduating high school students who will be pursuing postsecondary studies the opportunity to win a scholarship. Since the project was launched, several other caisses decided to join in. In the first 4 years, Caisse de Mont-Tremblant awarded a total of $53,000 in scholarships to 201 students. It's a project we're proud of.
