Your caisse expresses its cooperative difference in several manners: through the way its provides services, through the member dividends is pays out to members, through its contribution to the cooperative, economic and financial education of its members, through the support it gives to community development and cooperative development as well as through its democratic decision-making processes.

In 2016, Caisse Desjardins du Sud-Ouest de Montréal awarded $131,500 in donations and sponsorships to support various projects. It also committed to investing in the community through the Community Development Fund and invested $77,425 in 2016.

Here are a few criteria which are considered when processing donations and sponsorships:

  • non-profit organization that is recognized in the community
  • organization that operates in the caisse's territory
  • organization that is a member of the caisse

The Caisse has a help fund that serves to redistribute a portion of the cooperative's surplus earnings to the community. Following a proposal by the Board of Directors, members decide, during the Annual General Meeting, what portion of the surplus earnings will be paid into the help fund. With the help of their caisse, members can support causes that are important to them.

The members who sit on the Board of Directors manage the help fund. Every year, they report on the fund during the Annual General Meeting.

Caisse Desjardins du Sud-Ouest de Montréal practices intercooperation whenever possible and, with a view to maximizing the scope of its efforts, regularly joins forces with the following caisses:

  • Caisse Desjardins de LaSalle
  • Caisse Desjardins de L'Île-des-Sœurs–Verdun

To fulfill its mission to teach about cooperation, the economy and finances, Caisse Desjardins du Sud-Ouest de Montréal, jointly with the 2 other caisses mentioned above, organizes the Cocktail de la coopération each year. The event is an opportunity for the caisses to share about our involvement in the community, while giving visibility to local organizations.
