The Community Development Fund serves to redistribute a portion of the cooperative's surplus earnings to the community. Following a proposal by the board of directors, during the annual general meeting, members decide what portion of the surplus earnings will be paid into the community fund. Through their caisse, members can support causes that are important to them.

Members who sit on the board of directors manage the community fund. Every year, they report on the fund at the annual general meeting.

In 2019, members of Caisse Desjardins de la Nouvelle-Acadie agreed to contribute $70,000 to the Community Development Fund.

Maison de la Nouvelle-Acadie

The caisse has finalized an important partnership agreement with the Municipality of Saint-Jacques for a $100,000 contribution towards the completion of the Maison de la Nouvelle-Acadie project. This initiative is in line with the caisse's Community Development Fund position which helps preserve and promote Acadian culture. It's important to underscore that this direction has been identified, then voted on by the caisse's elected administrators, people from the community who care about our collective enrichment and well-being.

Our community's vitality is due to its history: Acadians worked the land and built businesses that still serve us today.

The Maison de la Nouvelle-Acadie is located on rue Principale in the heart of the village in Saint-Jacques. It has two original exhibition rooms to raise awareness about the context and issues of the deportation of Acadians.

It was, therefore, only natural for us to be the the Maison de la Nouvelle-Acadie's key partner and contribute financially to almost half of the project.

The caisse also invested $12,110 to support the following projects:

  • Charging station for electric vehicles in Sainte-Marie-Salomé
    Free recharging for caisse members
  • Desjardins Mutual Assistance Fund
The program provides assistance to people in financial difficulty or who have unexpected, urgent expenses.
  • Fondation pour la Santé du Nord de Lanaudière
Fundraising campaign to finance projects and equipment that improve healthcare and services, as well as people's well-being in the northern Lanaudière region.
  • Personal Finance: I'm in Charge
