1. What is the bank routing information?

To send funds to a financial institution, you need to provide some information. In some cases, you will need one coordinate to identify a branch and another to identify the recipient's account. Other countries ask for only one coordinate, e.g. the IBAN. When you add a recipient, the system will let you know what information is needed depending on the destination country.

2. What does IBAN mean?

IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. It provides the recipient's banking information as follows:
  • 2 letters: country
  • 2 digits: check digits
  • followed by up to 30 alphanumeric characters, depending on the country

This number is often found on bank statements and bills of businesses and individuals residing in one of the participating countries.

The IBAN must be entered without dashes or spaces.

The IBAN is mostly used for transferring funds to Europe.

3. What does BIC mean?

Also called the SWIFT code, the BIC is a bank identifier code that can be up to 8 to 11 characters long, depending on the bank, which makes it possible to automate the funds transfer process.

4. What does ABA mean?

ABA = American Bankers Association

The ABA is made up of 9 digits and identifies an American banking institution.

For direct deposits, the ABA must be eligible for ACH (Automated Clearing House) automated payments.

As for SWIFT international transfers, use the one for funds transfers.

5. What is the account number?

It identifies the account in which the funds will be deposited. Please ensure the accuracy of this number.

The account number must be entered without dashes or spaces.

Regarding Desjardins Bank accounts:

  • Account numbers are made up of 10 digits, beginning with:
    • 001 - Hallandale Beach Branch
    • 020 - Pompano Beach Branch
    • 030 - Lauderhill Branch
  • If the fourth digit of the account number is a 4, it is a savings account. Please indicate this in the Account type line in Step 1 of 4.

6. What is the identification number?

This number helps identify the bank branch.

The identification number must be entered without dashes or spaces.

7. What does CLABE mean?

The CLABE is a standard account number used for funds transfers to be credited to a bank account in Mexico only.

There are 18 characters in the CLABE:
  • First 3: bank
  • Next 3: branch
  • Next 11: account number
  • Last: check digit

8. What is the money transfer description?

The money transfer description makes it possible to identify the purpose of the transfer. Notwithstanding countries where French prevails, it is preferable to write the description in English. Examples of information you could enter: bill number 9999, salary, pension, parent's helper. It is up to each bank to allow the description to appear on the recipient's account statement.

9. What does SWIFT mean?
