To fulfill its mission to teach about cooperation, the economy and finances, your caisse is involved in helping youth become financial independent. Starting in elementary school, they can begin to learn sound savings habits through their school caisse. Students who save money in a school caisse also received a symbolic member dividend of $10. As part of its commitment to the academic success of its youth, Caisse Desjardins de Beauport has partnered with 2 student caisses (now called Finance Labs) at local schools: École secondaire François-Bourrin and École secondaire Samuel-De Champlain. First and foremost, Finance Lab are established for educational purposes, in addition to promoting sound personal finance management and giving volunteer students an opportunity to gain valuable experience and familiarize themselves with the operations of a cooperative, board of directors and service-based business. The Finance Lab also provides online services: students can deposit cheques, transfer money, pay bills, make a budget and save for future projects. Managed by students with support from teachers and caisse staff, the Finance Lab was designed for the specific needs of teens. This initiative is yet another example of Caisse Desjardins de Beauport’s commitment to the academic success of youth.
