Today, I'd like to talk to you about retirement, not just any retirement, yours...

More and more people I talk to nowadays tell me that they don't plan to stop working and that they'd rather keep active. This is where the concept of phased retirement comes in.

Given the longer average life expectancy, it's an approach that makes sense. But what does freedom in your retirement years mean for you?

Are you planning to work as a consultant in your area of expertise or maybe thinking of a new career? Why not go back to school or explore the world and delve into your passions? You could take a few days or even a few months off… Clearly, there's no shortage of projects awaiting you. But no matter what you decide, you need to plan and prepare for your retirement to make sure you have the freedom to choose when the time comes. You know, this second phase of your life is valuable and can even last as long as the time you spent working, let's say, in the more conventional sense of the term!

Are you wondering where to start to make sure you can enjoy your newfound freedom? Your advisor has access to all sorts of tools and financial information that can help you plan properly. For example, did you know your RRSP can help finance your courses if you decide to go back to school? If that's something you're considering, I urge you to speak with your advisor as soon as possible.

Give yourself every opportunity to retire on your own terms. Talk to your Desjardins advisor, he is your ally in retirement planning. Your advisor will guide you on the steps involved and provide the information you need to make your projects come to life. Give yourself the freedom to decide how you will enjoy retirement to the fullest!
