“Hi, my name is Thomas, I'm 31 and I've been a freelance programmer for the past 6 years now.

Launching big online stores, creating interactive websites for start-ups...What I like about my job is being able to choose my projects and organize my own schedule.

Besides that, I'm also an action sports kind of guy. I always manage to find a new surfing destination every year.

Last winter I couldn't leave though. You know, classic dumb accident—first patch of ice of the year in front of my house and boom, down I went.

Diagnosis: broken wrist and a broken tailbone—2 months off! And for me [pretends to type on a keyboard] that means 2 months without making any money.

Fortunately, I had a bit of money set aside. But I realized that a broken bone could prevent me from paying my bills. I have clients waiting for me to get back to work, but I also have a house, loans—I can't afford to go through such a situation again. Luckily, I've learned that I can get insured and prevent the financial strain.”
