Responsible consumption
At Desjardins, we aim for responsible consumption in our commercial and internal activities. Here is a look at our paper consumption for the last 3 years:
Total paper consumption (metric tonnes) | 2012 | 2011 | 2010 |
---|---|---|---|
Internal use | 1,403 | 1,608 | 1,322 |
Commercial use (mailings and publications) | 3,165 | 2,791 | 3,394 |
Total use | 4,568 | 4,399 | 4,716 |
In 2008, Desjardins committed to purchasing only paper made of 100% post-consumer fibre. We track purchases on an ongoing basis, taking certain constraints and specific needs into account. This helped us identify certain situations where it is technically difficult to make the transition to 100% post-consumer paper. Our goal is therefore achievable only in the long term.
In 2012, 87.3% of the paper Desjardins purchased was certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or the SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative). Our purchase of paper made from 100% post-consumer fibre breaks down as follows:
Paper made with 100% post-consumer fibre | 2012 | 2011 |
---|---|---|
Internal use | 42% | 33% |
Commercial use (mailings and publications) | 61% | 59% |
