Desjardins Foundation Prizes - Volunteer Involvement

The 2015 call for applications for Desjardins Foundation Prizes - Volunteer Involvement has ended. See the winners for 2015 in the Recipients section.

The Desjardins Foundation Prizes - Volunteer Involvement recognize people who volunteer for a non-profit organization.

Awarded annually, these prizes consist of a tribute certificate for the volunteer recipient and a $1,0001 donation to a charitable organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), for which the recipient works or to which they would like to give the money.

In 2015, 102 prizes totalling $102,000 will be awarded throughout Quebec and Ontario.

To be eligible for Desjardins Foundation Prizes - Volunteer Involvement, candidates must belong to 1 of the following 4 categories:

  • Members or clients of Desjardins caisses in Quebec and Ontario.
  • Desjardins Group employees.
  • Desjardins Group elected officers (an elected officer is a member of the Board of Directors of a Desjardins caisse).
  • Desjardins Group elected young intern officers ages 18 to 35. For this category, involvement on various Desjardins boards or committees is recognized.

In addition, candidates must have been a volunteer within a registered charitable organization or non-profit organization for at least 24 months. They must also demonstrate perseverance, tenacity and creativity in their social commitments.

The following groups are not eligible for Desjardins Foundation Prizes - Volunteer Involvement:

  • Employees, officers, administrators and managers of Desjardins Foundation as well as their immediate family (brothers, sisters, children, fathers and mothers), legal spouse or persons with whom they reside
  • Members of the Desjardins Foundation selection committee participating in the recipient selection as well as their immediate family (brothers, sisters, children, fathers and mothers), legal spouse or persons with whom they reside

Organizations working in the following sectors are not eligible for Desjardins Foundation Prizes - Volunteer Involvement:

  • Religious organizations and groups
  • Private schools and their foundations
  • Political organizations

A tribute certificate will be given to each volunteer recipient and a prize of $1,000 will be donated to a registered charitable organization. It may be the organization for which the volunteer works or, if the organization is not registered, the winner may give the money to another registered charitable organization of their choice.

Volunteer recipients will not be given tax receipts.

Desjardins members and clients 34 regional prizes of $1,000 each
Desjardins Group employees 34 regional prizes of $1,000 each
Desjardins elected officers 17 regional prizes of $1,000 each
Desjardins young intern officers 17 regional prizes of $1,000 each

All applications are evaluated by regional selection committees made up of representatives from the education, cooperative as well as health and social services communities.

Applications are evaluated based on the following selection criteria:

  • Quality of the work accomplished for the organization
  • Initiatives
  • Frequency of involvement
  • Positive impacts
  • Overall appreciation

Desjardins Foundation congratulates the 97 Desjardins Foundation Prizes - Volunteer Involvement recipients for 2015. The recipients' commitment and generosity will be recognized in 17 regions of Quebec and Ontario over the next few weeks.
