FAQ – Accounts and services – Interac e-Transfer for Business
If you have a transaction plan, there are no additional fees for sending or receiving Interac e-Transfers. They're included in your plan's transactions. However, if you exceed the number of transactions included in your plan or if you don't have a transaction plan, fees may apply.
You can send up to $10,000 per 24-hour period and receive up to $25,000 per transfer.
The recipient receives a notification a few minutes after the money is sent. It may take up to 30 minutes to receive the notification.
The money is available as soon as the recipient receives the notification and accepts the transaction.
Yes, the only things you'll receive by email or text message are notifications or deposit instructions. Desjardins and the recipient's financial institution then transfer your money using several security measures:
- Transaction encryption
- Authentication before accessing financial institution transactional sites
- Security question and answer before accessing funds
- Technology for monitoring unusual transactions
Yes, with Interac e-Transfer for business, you can send money to anyone with an account at a participating Canadian financial institution. All you need is the cellphone number or email address of the person you want to send money to.
You can only cancel a transfer if it hasn't already been accepted and deposited into the recipient's account. To cancel a transfer, follow these steps:
On AccèsD Affaires
- Click Transfers, then select Interac e-Transfers.
- In the menu on the left, select e-Transfer history.
- Find the transfer you want to cancel and click the amount.
- Click Cancel e-Transfer.
- Specify which account the money should go back to.
An Interac e-Transfer expires 30 days after it's sent. Funds not deposited by recipients within 30 days will be returned to you.
You can retrieve the funds from the notification that will be sent to you. Or you can cancel the transfer yourself on AccèsD Affaires.
On AccèsD Affaires
- Click Transfers, then select Interac e-Transfers.
- In the menu on the left, select e-Transfer history.
- Find the transfer you want to cancel and click the amount.
- Click Cancel e-Transfer.
- Specify which account the money should go back to.
If a recipient receives a transfer but doesn't deposit it, Interac will send them reminders before the transfer expires. You can also send a reminder yourself from AccèsD Affaires.
If the transfer expired and the recipient never deposited their funds, simply send another transfer using the normal procedure.
When someone sends you an Interac e-Transfer, you receive a text message or email with the sender's name. The sender chooses the communication method.
Steps to deposit the money in your account:
- Click the link in the email or text message.
- Select Desjardins.
- Log in to AccèsD Affaires.
- Answer the security question correctly.
- Choose the account where you want to deposit the money.
- Make sure the information you entered is accurate.
- Deposit the transfer.
You'll receive a confirmation number and the sender will be notified that the transfer was completed.
If you gave your business account number to the sender, no action is required on your part. The funds will be automatically deposited. The sender can decide whether or not to send you a notification.
It's an additional security measure that's used to certify that the person receiving your Interac e-Transfer is the intended recipient.
Choose a question that only you and the recipient know the answer to. The recipient must answer the question correctly to receive the money. To prevent fraud, send the answer to the recipient using a different communication method to that used for making the transfer.
If you don't know the answer to the security question with regard to the Interac e-Transfer for business, contact the sender.
If you answer incorrectly more than 3 times, the transfer will automatically be cancelled. The sender can retrieve the funds via their financial institution and will have to send a new transfer.
You can simply ignore the transfer and it will expire in 30 days.
If you want to decline the transfer right away, answer the security question as if you were going to deposit the money. You'll then have the option to decline the transfer.
No. For now, you can only receive Interac e-Transfers with your business account number. The option to send a transfer with your account number will be available at a later date.
You can view transfer details in your account's latest transactions.
On AccèsD Affaires
- Click the account where the funds were deposited.
- Click the Interac e-Transfer in your latest transactions.
- View the transfer details on the new page that pops up.
When you give the sender your business account number, you can receive an Interac e-Transfer without having to answer a security question. The funds are deposited automatically.
