FAQ – Desjardins credit cards – You've gone over your credit limit

We had already been sending letters by mail—in some cases—to let cardholders know when they exceeded their limit. Since August 1, 2019, the Consumer Protection Act requires that all credit cardholders be notified when a transaction on their account causes them to exceed their credit limit.

We post or email notices to all cardholders who exceed their limit to let them know that a transaction on their account has caused them to exceed their credit limit. We will never ask you to provide or confirm personal information by email.

No, the Consumer Protection Act requires it. Since August 1, 2019, a notice is sent once per period, that is, by billing month. If you exceed your limit again the following month, you'll receive the notice again. If you don't want to receive a notice, stay under your authorized credit limit.
