Union partners

In 1997, the Fédération des caisses d'économie Desjardins du Québec, the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN), the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ) and the Fédération des travailleurs et des travailleuses du Québec (FTQ) jointly signed a cooperative agreement to create and maintain jobs in Quebec, to ensure the financial security and well-being of their respective members and to support workers in difficulty

More recently, in 2004, the Fédération des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (FIIQ) also ratified a similar agreement with one of the caisses belonging to the Group Caisses Executive Division, the Caisse d'économie Desjardins du personnel du Réseau de la santé.

These agreements have led to concrete actions that promote the workers' access to savings tailored to their income and their personal or family situation, no matter what age they are, by combining their caisse RRSPs and their existing workers funds

Institut de coopération pour l'éducation des adultes (ICÉA)

On October 25, 2005, the Desjardins Group Caisses Executive Division signed an agreement with the Institut de coopération pour l'éducation des adultes (ICÉA), a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote continuing education and to raise awareness among the population, as well as businesses and organizations, about how important adult education is in Quebec.

Globalisation, Quebec's decreasing population, the predicted shortage in labour and skilled labour for businesses and the growing influx of immigrants are challenges the group caisses must face since they exist at the very heart of these communities and serve the human resources who work there.

Within this context, the Desjardins group caisses participated in the Adult Education Week that took place from April 1 to 7, 2006.

Herstreet

Herstreet is a cause that is important to the group caisses, especially the ones located in the greater region of Montreal.

Since 2003, the council of representatives of the group caisses and caisses d'économie has been supporting and encouraging this non-profit organization that offers shelter to homeless women and helps them get back on their feet by providing re-entry and training services.

Supporting Herstreet is a concrete way to fulfill the mission of the caisses d'économie and the Group Caisses Executive Division. "The caisse d'économie was forged in the fight against financial usury … it now joins in the fight against the social usury that stems from precarious work, unemployment and marginalization."1

In February 2006, the group caisses in the Montreal region, the CSN, CSQ, FTQ unions and the Fédération indépendante des cégeps launched a vast $1 campaign targeting all their members. These organizations hope to raise enough money to finance supervised accommodations for women who are trying to regain control of their lives.
