First option: you must fill the application for student financial aid. Go to your school's financial aid office to get the form, or get on the Quebec government’s AFE Web site.
Second option: apply online. It's faster. It tailors itself to your profile as you add details, displaying only the pages that apply to you. If a section is not properly filled in, you will not be able to continue on to the next section. At the end, you will be told which documents to provide, depending on your situation.
Once it has been approved, you can arrange your loan through any Desjardins caisse. At Desjardins, even if you are studying out of town, you can continue doing business with your local caisse through another one that's closer to your school.
To avoid complicating the repayment of your loan, it is important that you are the only account holder. If the financial aid payments are deposited into a joint account or into a parental account in a child's name, your periodic or monthly payments will be delayed so they can first be validated.
