Money transfers (between individuals)

Note

Money transfers (between individuals)

Money transfers are the modern way to:

  • transfer money to the account of another Desjardins member, Desjardins Credit Union member or VISA Desjardins cardholder
  • receive money from another Desjardins or Desjardins Credit Union member

Easily, instantly and in complete security.

Use money transfers to:

  • pay money you owe another individual (for your share of a group gift or reservation, etc.)
  • pay for recurring expenses (rent, home day care fees, etc.) or occasional services (plumber, electrician) received from self-employed people
  • help out a parent, friend or child studying away from home, and…
  • …get paid back, too!

Do you run a home day care centre or own a rental property of 4 units or less? Recommend this payment solution to your clients.

Features

  • Transfers can be made online on AccèsD and at Desjardins ATMs.
  • Can be used to transfer, on a daily basis, an amount up to your daily inter-Caisses limit1.

  • The same fees apply as those charged for transfers between accounts.
  • Transfers are made instantly and without holds on funds on a secure connection.

How it works

1. Activate the money transfer function

This must be done before you make your first money transfer. This must be done before you make your first money transfer. Contact an advisor at 1-800-CAISSES (1-800-224-7737) or 514-522-2373 in the Montreal area.

2. Create your list of recipients

Get the information required from each recipient you want to add to your list. Or obtain from them a specimen cheque marked “VOID”. All the information required is on the cheque.
Log on to AccèsD to enter the information.

  • If you use AccèsD and the ATM

To have your list of money transfer recipients displayed at the ATM, log on to AccèsD and click on:

  • User file in the upper right-hand portion of the screen
  • Manage list of recipients at the ATM under “Money transfers” in the left hand menu.

  • If you use only the ATM

Contact an advisor at 1-800-CAISSES (1-800-224-7737) or 514-522-2373 in the Montreal area, or go to your caisse.

3. Make money transfers

Once you’ve made your list of recipients, you can transfer funds to their account instantly:

  • on AccèsD (from the Transactions/Operations tab, click on Money transfers in the left-hand menu) or
  • at the ATM (click on Transfer, and then on Money transfers)

To pay rent and child care fees

We’ve prepared a leaflet to help you approach clients and tenants about money transfers.

Before letting your tenants or clients know about money transfers and how easy they make paying rent or day care fees, make sure you yourself are registered for AccèsD so you have easy access to your accounts and the payments made to them. Register for AccèsD

Then follow these 3 easy steps.

1.
Determine which of your clients are likely candidates

Make sure you only propose money transfers to people who:

  • you trust (avoid offering the service to people who have had problems paying you in the past)
  • pay with Desjardins cheques or have an account in a Desjardins caisse or at Desjardins Credit Union
2.
Fill out the appropriate leaflets

For home day care centres (PDF, 136 KB)
For owners of rental properties of four units or less (PDF, 136 KB)

Print it out and fill out the section on the right. You'll find the information you need at the bottom of your cheques.

3.
Give the leaflets to tenants or clients

Now you can give the leaflets to eligible tenants and clients to encourage them to pay you by way of money transfers.

1. The inter-Caisses limit is the maximum amount you can transfer per day to a Desjardins caisse or Desjardins Creciit Union branch other than the one in which you have your account. The inter-Caisses limit usually awarded by default to all individual folios is $1,000 per day. Your caisse or Desjardins Credit Union branch can elect to increase or decrease the limit (to a maximum of $2,500).
