Critical illness insurance

Critical illness insurance helps you deal with the expenses arising from a critical illness (e.g. cancer or stroke) so you can focus on getting better.

  • Pays you a set benefit amount while you're alive, following the diagnosis of a covered critical illness or surgical procedure.
  • A tax-free benefit that can be used however you want, so you can:
    • purchase medication or healthcare that aren't covered by your provincial plan
    • access cutting-edge technology or experimental drugs
    • pay for homecare services (housekeeping, meal preparation, personal care, babysitting, etc.)
    • compensate for lost income if your spouse takes time off work to be with you
    • cover transportation and accommodations if you have to travel to receive care or treatment
    • pay for care from certain healthcare professionals (occupational therapist, osteopath, chiropractor, speech therapist, etc.)
    • retrofit your home or car
  • The option to get all or some of your premiums back at the end of the contract period, if you die while the contract is in force or if you terminate the coverage.
