Travel Insurance: You may be already covered!

Your group insurance may offer you some travel insurance coverage. If you are not entirely protected, it is possible to get insurance for the portion not covered by your group insurance (generally 20%).

Some credit cards also offer travel insurance coverage. For instance, if they pay their travel expenses with their VISA Desjardins Odyssey Gold, cardholders have:

• hospital, medical and paramedical care insurance;
• trip cancellation insurance;
• baggage insurance for trips outside of the province;
• collision and theft insurance for rental cars; and
• common carrier accident insurance.

VISA Desjardins Classe OR, Elegance GOLD, Modulo GOLD, VISA Desjardins Classic and FOR STUDENTS ONLY cardholders may benefit from a 3 Day Complimentary Travel Insurance coverage.

Reimbursement
In the event of a claim, keep your supporting documents for your living expenses (gas, hotel, restaurant). However, such expenses are not always eligible for reimbursement.

Also, ask the doctor or hospital where you were treated to give you a detailed bill. Keep in mind that if you become ill or are injured while travelling outside your province of residence, you, or the person accompanying you, should contact the Assistance Service immediately before consulting a physician. If you fail to do so within 24 hours of the event, you may have to pay a portion of the fees that would be otherwise eligible for reimbursement once the deductible has been applied.
