114,519 trees planted for the Eco-friendly Statement Challenge

The Eco-friendly Statement Challenge encouraged members to replace their paper statements of account with online statements, resulted in the planting of 114,519 trees in 2 years, the equivalent of more than 140 football fields.

This also means that nearly 6 million sheets of paper will be saved annually since 114,519 members are now signed up for online statements.

As an active partner of the Earth Day program, Desjardins plans to help slow climate change by planting 100,000 trees before the end of 2009 in the regions of participating members. These trees will absorb over 300 tons of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from the atmosphere each year, according to the Chaire en Éco-conseil at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi.

There is still time to do your part if you haven't yet signed up for online statements of account.

Online statements:

  • save paper
  • can be viewed any time on AccèsD
  • are archived for 12 months
