Your child is in preschool

It's never too late to start talking to your child about money and consumer behaviour. Though preschoolers don't yet know how to count or understand abstract ideas like the value of money, they are targeted by the media and influenced by your own consumer habits.

Introduce the idea of money to your preschooler: how to get it, the costs of things, charity, etc. Remember that you are in the best position to do so.

Don't know where to begin?

Follow these steps:

As soon as your child turns 3, you can introduce him to money as an object and make him understand that money doesn't grow on trees.
Your child should learn how to manage his money as early as possible with a weekly allowance divided into 3 piggy banks: expenses, savings and charity.
There are many ways to instill the importance of charity in your child.

Did you know?

Do you think you won't be able to teach your child these things? You don't have to be an expert to teach the basic principles of finance. Think about your own experiences with money and what you wish your parents would have taught you. If you have made some of your own mistakes along the way, you can help your child avoid them. That's what counts.

If you just want to take the opportunity to organize your finances, don't hesitate to read the Money tips section for resources and tools to make a budget, save, pay your debts, develop responsible consumer habits, etc.
