How to select your travel insurance

Spring has barely arrived and you're already dreaming about the summer holidays! To set off with peace of mind, make sure you tuck your travel insurance away in your luggage. It'll protect you financially should an illness, injury or death occur during your trip.

Desjardins Financial Security's Travel Insurance offers a wide range of complementary coverage Coverage: Protection offered by an insurance policy in exchange for the payment of premiums. s.

If you're planning a trip in your home province

In this case, you don't need travel insurance because your emergency health care expenses are covered by your provincial health insurance plan. Unless, of course, when you get to where you're going, you decide to go a little further…

If you're planning to travel outside your home province

  1. Check your credit card Credit card: Plastic card issued by a credit company (e.g., VISA) that you can use to make purchases on credit and pay for them at a later date.  ; most cards offer free travel insurance for a limited number of days.

    • If you have a VISA Desjardins FOR STUDENTS ONLY or VISA Desjardins Classic credit card, you have nothing to pay the first 3 days of each trip taken outside your home province. If you travel for longer periods, you must ask for additional coverage before your departure for the duration of your trip.

    • Don't have a credit card? Travel Insurance's Emergency Health Care coverage is the perfect alternative. This insurance covers the expenses you incur for emergency health care outside your home province. It also covers transportation or repatriation expenses for medical reasons or following a death.

  2. Are you planning several trips during the year?

    • The Frequent Travel Package may be your best choice! This insurance includes Emergency Health Care coverage for 1 year for all trips of 23 consecutive days or less outside your home province.

The Multicoverage Package includes Emergency Health Care, Accident and Baggage coverage. It is available for 1 trip or as a combination with the Frequent Travel Package. You can also add Trip Cancellation coverage.
