Cover letter
Your CV must be accompanied by a cover letter.
Caution: Employers aren’t looking for a CV summary. They want to assess your motivation to work for their company. Therefore, the content should be dynamic and convincing.
Write the first version of your cover letter and then make sure you personalize it to meet the specific needs of each position you apply for. The letter must be adapted each time and should never feel like rehash.
Contents
A cover letter is usually four paragraphs long:
- Indicate the source of the job listing or the name of the person who referred you to the company. Include the position for which you are applying.
- If you have the job description, show the recruiter you have the experience, ability and competence to hold the position. Add a brief description as to why the job interests you.
- Request an interview, indicating the hours or days you can most easily be reached. If you are going on vacation shortly, state the date you are leaving and returning.
- Politely end the letter and sign it. At the bottom of the letter, state that your resumé is included.
