Lowering your auto insurance premium

Lower your auto insurance premium

Are you a student? Graduate? In the workforce? Desjardins General Insurance has reviewed its car insurance premiums. Get up to a 20% discount if you are under 25.

Whether you've had auto insurance for several years or are getting ready to shop around for your very first policy, the following tips will help you be proactive in reducing your insurance premiums.

  • Drive carefully. It's certainly the best way to reduce the risk of accident (not to mention tickets!)
  • Have an anti-theft device installed on your car. We offer discounts to drivers whose cars are equipped with an anti-theft device, regardless of the vehicle year.
  • Take out both your auto and home insurance at Desjardins to get a discount.
  • Buy an environmentally friendly car. Get 10% off your auto insurance premium if you drive a fuel-efficient car1, 15% if you drive a hybrid2 and 20% if you drive an electric vehicle1.
  • Increase the deductible you would pay in the event of a claim to $500 or more if possible, to reduce your premium.
  • If the value of your vehicle is low, don't insure it for damages.
