While on vacation in the U.S., an 18-year-old woman suffered a heatstroke. Her condition required that she be transported by ambulance and get medical attention. Result: Travel Insurance reimbursed her almost $400.
Another young woman of about the same age was also visiting the U.S. She fell off her bike and fractured her wrist. Result: Travel Insurance reimbursed her nearly $1,500 for a medical consultation, various types of treatment and medecine.
Should you need medical care outside of your home province, your provincial health insurance plan will reimburse a portion of your medical and paramedical fees, but only for emergency medical or paramedical care received after a sudden illness or accident. Personal travel insurance will help you pay for the expenses not covered under your provincial health insurance plan.
