Given the increase in the number of ATMs in the world, it is becoming easier and easier to pay for things with a debit or credit card, change currency and get cash when on vacation.
Financial services aren't free and using them hastily can be expensive. Travellers should be cautious because of security reasons and they may be unfamiliar with the practices of the local financial institutions.
The user-friendliness of various e-payment methods depends on each destination. Not all countries have an extensive network of ATMs and credit cards are not always recognized in less touristy areas. Are traveller's cheques always a good choice? It is always better to find out before leaving home, especially if you will be travelling off the beaten path.
