What about traveller's cheques?

The popularity of credit cards is growing at the expense of traveller's cheques, which, for a long time, were the only alternative to cash. Traveller's cheques are very safe and can be replaced within 24 hours in the event of theft or loss. They are a good idea when travelling to some countries that do not have many ATMs; they can be used to pay for lodging upon arrival or cashed at a bank. In both touristy capital cities and small towns, shop owners sometimes receive a slap on the wrist for accepting them so they are not a systematically recommended solution. However, when traveller's cheques are the best option for the destination, it is wiser to buy traveller's cheques in Canadian funds if possible so you avoid converting them twice.
