The green lunch box challenge

The green lunch box challenge

Recyc-Québec invites you to take the green lunch box challenge and find out how to have a full stomach and an empty garbage can! Here are some tips:

  • To avoid throwing away food, evaluate your dietary needs and take only what you really need.
  • Use reusable containers for your lunches (sandwiches, drinks, fruits and vegetables, cookies, etc.).
  • Instead of buying plastic lunch bags, use empty bread bags. Take them home and use them again.
  • Ask your parents not to buy individually-wrapped portions (yogurt, juice boxes, cookies, etc.). They produce more waste and often cost more than large sizes.
  • Ask your school or daycare service to replace disposable plates and utensils with reusable glasses, utensils and plates. If you have to use plastic, try not to break it. It can be washed and used again.
  • Bring a glass from home to school. You can keep it there and use it all year.
  • Don't forget to bring returnable containers back to the store so they can be recycled.

To find out more about reducing waste and recycling, visit the Recyc-Québec Web site (site in French only).

This year, you can also think about buying recycled school supplies and used books. It's a good move for the environment and it will save you money!
