Commercial practices

Our commercial practices with respect to young people affect both the way we do business with them and the range of products and services we offer them.

Member dividends are one of the distinctive features of cooperation at Desjardins. Each year, at the Annual General Meeting, members decide how to share their caisse's surplus earnings.

Desjardins offers two products specifically designed for students: d.plan for Students, which includes six savings, credit, insurance and financing products that complement one another, as well as D Capital Solution for students with significant financial needs, given their field of study. Since 2006, The Desjardins Distinctive Offer has provided additional support to D Capital Solution clients once they’ve graduated, for both their personal and business needs.

Buying a car is a milestone for young adults and the cost of insurance is often a major deterrent. Desjardins General Insurance's rate-setting practices continue to reflect the experience these young people have acquired.

Preventive measures

A number of measures have also been introduced to prevent young people from getting too heavily into debt. These include calling young people whose payment habits are changing.

Finally, our Chrome program for 12- to 17- year-olds is aimed at helping them develop sound financial habits.
