In-line skates and skateboards
Some safety precautions
Are you a fan of skateboarding and in-line skating? You may be bit rusty after the long winter, so be sure and take it easy as you start up again.
In-line skating and skateboarding are popular activities. However, they involve the risk of serious head, arm and leg injuries.
This summer, have fun and be safe by following these simple rules:
- Learn to control your speed and to stop: this first step is essential before you head out on your wheels!
- Practice makes perfect! Start slowly with simple moves and move on to more difficult ones only when you feel ready.
- Wear protective gear that fits properly: helmet, pads for your elbows and knees, and wrist guards (in-line skates). Complete your gear with slip-resistant shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt to protect yourself from cuts
and scrapes.
- Keep your eyes and ears open! Look straight ahead to avoid other people, cars or any other obstacles in your path.
- Pick the right spot. Skateparks or facilities especially designed for these activities are a good choice since they provide you with a clean, smooth surface on which to practise.
Enjoy yourself!
