Ever heard of phishing? No, it is not a new way to catch fish! Phishing is when con artists send fake e-mails asking people to click on a link to a false Web site for various reasons.
The phony site will ask you to confirm some personal information, which the criminals then use to steal your money or to use your identity. The fake Web site, like the e-mail, seems authentic, because it is often an identical copy of the institution or the company's Web site.
Desjardins is working hard to protect its members from such swindlers. Meanwhile, members must observe a few basic rules of their own to protect themselves. For example:
Read the Online security section to find out what else Desjardins is doing to protect your personal information, learn how to make your computer more secure, find out about different kinds of fraud and test your Web knowledge and behaviour.
When it comes to security, the more you know, the safer you are!
